Petrol stations for sale in South Africa

Fuel sector opportunities are usually confidential and require controlled access. The public teasers below show the DealExchange confidential listing standard; real mandates are published only after verification.

Why buyers like fuel sector businesses

Petrol stations combine an essential, repeat purchase product with strong convenience retail income. A well run forecourt earns from fuel volume, the shop, and ancillary services such as a car wash or quick service food. Because fuel itself is a low margin, high volume product, the shop and ancillary income often carry the profitability, which is why verifying where the profit actually comes from matters so much.

What makes them different to buy

Fuel retailing is regulated under the Petroleum Products Act and administered through the petroleum resources regulator. South Africa has moved from the former Department of Mineral Resources and Energy structure toward the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, while some official forms and legacy references may still use DMRE wording. A station needs a site licence and a retail licence, and these do not transfer automatically when ownership changes, so make licence approval a condition of any deal. You will also need to review the supplier/brand agreement, confirm fuel volumes against supplier statements, and check environmental liability from underground storage tanks.
